Modders are slowly turning Sea Power into Ace Combat strategy game

Sea Power gets a modern jet upgrade with Ace Combat Pack mod. Soon, maybe even a space launch platform will be added.

Where would we be without modders? Some of their work is straight-up art, like packing modern tech to older games. And then there’s this completely insane one. Someone’s trying to turn Sea Power into another game.

Modern jet fighters in a Cold War navy game? This mod makes it happen

Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age is a deep, strategic air and naval warfare game that lets you command NATO and Warsaw Pact forces across Cold War-era battles from the '60s to the '80s. But for some, the air combat just wasn’t quite enough.

Meanwhile, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is a more action-packed aerial combat, letting players take control of advanced fighter jets. And that was exactly what was missing – the perfect mix of the Ace Combat universe and Sea Power strategic gameplay.

So, Misaka and Texas_the_Omertosa decided to fix that. Their mod for Sea Power brings elements of Ace Combat 7 into the game. Key features are:

  1. Ace Combat-style Fillable Missiles – Brings a new missile system inspired by Ace Combat 7, with various missile types featuring different ranges, tracking, and guidance mechanics.
  2. Improved maneuverability – Aircraft can now handle better, though there’s a chance of flying into space (yes, really).
  3. New Aircraft – Includes the Su-30SM, F-16C, F/A-18F, and more.
  4. Expanded Weaponry – Additional weapons for each aircraft.

But there are some limitations as well:

  1. The mod relies on SeaLifter for proper installation.
  2. Due to the short-range ammo, it's mainly suited for close-range combat scenarios.
  3. If you want to tweak ammo ranges, you'll have to modify the files yourself.
  4. Some missiles now use direct guidance, meaning they fly straight at the target rather than using traditional tracking.

And that’s not even the whole story. Misaka shared on BuOrd: Naval Modding Community Discord that they’re working on even more Ace Combat 7 content, like the International Space Elevator. Yeah, you heard that right. They’re bringing the Lighthouse into a Cold War-era game.

Been with gamepressure.moviesx.org since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or iring my collection of retro consoles.
