This free RTS could redefine the entire genre. Beyond All Reason is coming soon to Steam
Do you fancy a great freeware RTS? If so, you should be interested in the Beyond All Reason, which allows more than a hundred players to fight giant battles in a style similiar to Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander.
Beyond All Reason is a free RTS inspired by the iconic Total Annihilation and released in open-source model. The game allows players to engage in massive futuristic battles on an epic scale. In multiplayer mode, up to 160 players can compete on a single map, commanding as many as 15,000 units.
- Currently, the title is available for as stand alone , but there are plans to release it on Steam. In preparation for this, the developers are working hard to refine their creation.
- The project has been growing rapidly in recent months. The developers have improved graphics, performance, and the interface. In March, a major update for Season 2 was released, which significantly enhanced gameplay and balance while introducing a series of new maps. The multiplayer system has also been revamped, with visual improvements and better matchmaking.

Since the beginning of the year, the number of players regularly enjoying Beyond All Reason has increased by 30%, and the growth rate continues to accelerate. Currently, over 11,000 players engage in the game daily, with the highest peak of simultaneous activity reaching 2,204 players.

Beyond All Reason offers both multiplayer battles and AI-driven skirmishes, including standalone matches and scenarios with unique objectives.
The game runs on an open-source engine known as Recoil, which is being developed by the creators of Beyond All Reason. However, it is not an entirely new technology—it is a fork of the older Spring Engine project, which serves as the foundation for several other notable free RTS games, such as Zero-K.
