Astro Bot is the third installment of the 3D platformer series launched in 2018. The game was developed by Team Asobi, operating under the wings of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which delivered both the first part of the series, the game titled Astro's Playroom, which was a kind of interactive presentation of the capabilities of the PS5 console and its DualSense controller.

Gameplay

In Astro Bot we view the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game we play the role of the titular robot, whose searches for missing crew in over 80 levels scattered across 6 galaxies. During the adventure, our character visits various locations, such as lush forests, sandy beaches, and volcanic wastelands, but also more imaginative places like a giant hourglass.

I wasn’t sure what to expect attending the 2024 Game Awards. The trailers and reveals were some of the best, but how it honored game developers was a Game Changer.

Astro Bot is a charming and cheeky nod to a lot of PlayStation history and a powerful demonstration of PS5 hardware, but more than anything, it's just a ridiculously good game.

Analog Stick Gaming: 9.5 / 10 by Jeff M Young

Astro Bot is frankly superb in its execution, offering delightful worlds, abilities, and charm. Its presentation across its celebration of PlayStation’s history is twofold; one where it honors what came before and the other side of the coin in that it shows how much IP PlayStation has intentionally left behind. Regardless, Astro Bot deserves to be in your collection, not just because of how great it is, but that it hopefully sells well enough to allow other teams at Sony to not follow the same basic third-person over-the-shoulder narrative trend the publisher has been clinging to for years. We need more charm and experimentation from Sony, and this game is hopefully just the start.
