A survival FPP action game, in many ways inspired by the popular STALKER series. The story of Atomfall is the alternative version of a British nuclear disaster from 1957. We enter the exclusion zone, trying to learn its secrets and survive among mutants and hostile factions.
Atomfall is a survival action game inspired by Cold War paranoia, British folk horror, and science fiction works such as Day of the Triffids. The game was developed by the Rebellion studio, known primarily for the Sniper Elite series.
Atomfall refers to the Windscale fire - a nuclear disaster of 1957, when the core of one of the nuclear reactors built near the village of Seascale (Great Britain) spontaneously ignited, leading to radioactive contamination of the entire area. In the alternative version of this story presented by the authors of the game, the consequences of this event were much more serious than they were in reality.
In the game world, the disaster site was surrounded by a quarantine zone similar to the Chornobyl's Exclusion Zone. Within five years of these events, the military-controlled area had changed beyond recognition, and the people living there began to form smaller communities, creating factions that fought bloody conflicts among themselves. Our task is to unravel the mystery behind all these events.
In Atomfall we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game gives us a vast, open world that we can freely explore. The territory surrounded by a high wall was divided among various factions - from strange cults to secret government agencies. Exploring picturesque areas, bustling settlements, and ruined buildings, we get to know the inhabitants of the zone and carry out quests for them.
Combat and fighting for survival play an important role here. We eliminate enemies, among whom we find hostile people, mutated creatures or even well-armed robots. Our character can use firearms, as well as makeshift murder tools like bows.
The game allows us to both engage in open skirmishes and act quietly, sneaking behind the enemy's back and getting rid of them by surprise. We find new equipment in the game world, buy it from merchants or craft it, using the resources gathered along the way.

Atomfall Review: A union jack of all trades
Combat, stealth, and even exploration could have been handled better, sure, but Atomfall’s themes, atmosphere, and story make for a solid game that lets you forgive some of these issues if you let it.

With its wide-open quest design, Atomfall takes a novel approach to storytelling that helps push through some of its lesser parts.

Atomfall, at first glance, might be regarded as a Fallout clone, but the truth is it has a clear identity that makes it stand out from the pack of imitators. Its green and lush surroundings give it a unique flair, even if its story is still a bit by the numbers.
Daily Mirror: 4 / 5 by Aaron Potter
Atomfall doesn’t get every piece of the survival sandbox puzzle right, but this is easy to forgive due to how much fun it is to scoff down Cornish pasties to regain health, uncover a mysterious sci-fi plot in myriad ways, and craft a needle bomb before lobbing it into a group of cultists. It’s the most quintessentially British open-world I’ve had the pleasure to explore in a video game, possibly ever, and I already can’t wait to go back to peel back even more layers of its environmental onion.
