Doom 3 for PC and XBX is a science fiction first-person shooter and the third major installment of the legendary series that set new standards for its genre in the mid-90s. It was developed by id Software, headed by John and Adrian Carmack. The development team lacked one creator of the original, though, namely, John Romero who left his colleagues due to disagreements shortly after Quake’s release and established his own, equally meritorious studio, Ion Storm. The third Doom was released for PC/Mac as well as Xbox.

Plot

Plot-wise, Doom 3 tells a similar story to the 1993’s original, although it was quite significantly expanded. It was co-written by Matthew Costello, the man behind 11th Hour’s plot. The action takes place in 2145 on Mars, in a large research facility of the UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation). The company initially dealt solely with exploration of the space and biotechnology development, but once it discovered remains of an advanced alien civilization, it broadened its activities with archeology.

Doom Game Series

FPS series being one of the forerunners of the first-person shooter genre. The series was created by id Software studio and has, so to speak, three "fathers" - John Carmack, John Romero and Tom Hall. Nevertheless, over the years, teams such as Midway Games and Nerve Software have also been involved in its development. Although the series made its debut on personal computers, over time it began to make its presence increasingly clear also on consoles, as well as on mobile devices.

Action

An official expansion pack for Doom 3. It was developed by Nerve Software, under the auspices of the base game's creators. Resurrection of Evil continues the storyline established in the core game, once again taking the player to the secret research facility on Mars. It turns out that defeating the powerful Cyberdemon and destroying the portal leading to hell were not the only problems of the Union Aerospace Corporation. Assuming the role of a nameless commando, the player's task is to eliminate the main culprit by the name of Malcolm Betruger, while slaying hordes of monstrous, demonic creatures along the way. Apart from the new storyline and a set of completely new levels, the expansion offers several new types of enemies, two weapons (the classic double-barreled shotgun and the futuristic Plasma Levitator), as well as a powerful artifact allowing the player to slow down the age of time. Additionally, Resurrection of Evil features four new maps for the multiplayer mode. Up to eight players can meet in a multiplayer session.
