Hot Wheels Unleashed is an arcade racing game based on the Hot Wheels license. Game was developed by Milestone, a studio specializing in this genre, known for such games as Sebastien Loeb Rally Evo.

Mechanics

In Hot Wheels Unleashed we take part in crazy races with the Hot Wheels cars. Among the available models we can find fast and agile supercars, muscle cars, heavy and quite slow off-roaders or other vehicles, such as a tractor or a tanker. The races take place on a variety of tracks that wind not only horizontally, but also vertically, which are full of all sorts of jumps, loops and accelerators. The driving model focuses on recklessness, spectacular drifts, and impressive but risky behaviour.

Hot Wheels Unleashed Review: Too Early to Call It Hot

If you’ve ever dreamt of playing with Hot Wheels toys in a video game, Milestone makes it come true. This is the ultimate proposition for Hot Wheels enthusiasts. But is it a proper game at all? Well, yes… but no. At least not right now.

Hardcore Gamer: 4 / 5 by Jeremy Peeples

Hot Wheels Unleashed is a fantastic arcade racer at its core, but the overall product is hurt by the gacha mechanics.

Digital Trends: 2.5 / 5 by Otto Kratky

Hot Wheels Unleashed starts off blazing fast but ends up as a shallow kart racer.

TrueAchievements: 6 / 10 by Luke Albiges

Fans of the toy line will likely find stunning digital recreations of the cars they love here, whether now or in one of many content updates already on the cards, along with a generally competent racer to use them in. Still, said fans may find that the dedication to the brand here elevates the experience to a degree, although those with less love for Hot Wheels in general might just see this able racer as more of a slightly cynical vessel through which to peddle pretend toy cars for the next few years. Shiny and on-brand, but nothing particularly special, honestly.
