Release Date: October 13, 2023
A sequel to the successful action RPG created by CI Games - a Polish team behind the development of such franchises as Sniper Ghost Warrior or Art of Murder. Tomasz Gop took part in production of the game as well. He is an experienced gamemaker who had previously worked in CD Projekt RED as a senior producer of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
The Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of the soulslike action RPG series launched in 2014. It was developed by Hexworks studio, part of the Polish company CI Games.
The action of The Lords of the Fallen is set a thousand years after the events presented in the original. Centuries have ed since the defeat of the demonic god Adyr, and the sinister deity is about to be reborn. The last hope for the world lies with the dark crusader, who must embark on a journey through the lands of the living and the dead to overthrow Adyr.
Compared to the first Lords of the Fallen, the game stands out due to a much richer storyline. At the same time, the game world and the story set in it have become much darker.
The gameplay in The Lords of the Fallen begins with the creation of a character. The production allows us to decide on her appearance, as well as choose one of nine professions. The choice we make at the outset only determines the initial path we will follow; in the later phase of the adventure, nothing will prevent us from developing the hero or heroine regardless of the class chosen earlier.
Further on, there is nothing left for us to do but throw ourselves into adventures. There are two huge lands waiting to be traversed here - the world of the living, known as Axiom, and the land of the dead, called Umbral. Although numerous dangers lurk in both, the greatest horrors will be found in the latter. We cross the border between the worlds with the help of a special lantern, which allows us to reach places that the living never even dreamed of, and discover their secrets, as well as manipulate the souls of enemies. We also go to the world of the dead when we suffer death on the battlefield in the land of the living. We are then given one chance to return to our body, but the road to it involves facing various infernal monsters.
Speaking of fighting - we fight dynamic skirmishes with opponents, and it's up to us whether we decide to eliminate enemies with white weapons or decide to fight them with magic. On our way we are confronted with diverse (though most often - equally terrifying) opponents, and in addition to serial opponents, we often have to face much more powerful than them bosses. Although the combat here is faster than in the original, during clashes success is ensured not only by dexterity and reflexes, but also by patience; for it is often worthwhile to carefully examine the opponent, try to discover his weak points and gaps in defense and wait for a convenient moment to launch an attack.
As you progress, you develop your hero or heroine, upgrading attributes and spells, as well as acquiring increasingly better equipment (weapons and armor).
The Lords of the Fallen can be played in single or multiplayer mode. In addition to co-op, the title allows us to invade other players and make their lives miserable.
The Lords of the Fallen runs on Unreal Engine 5 technology.
The game was first announced as a sequel to Lords of the Fallen. Although it was initially overseen by the same team that developed the original, in subsequent years it began to change hands. In July 2015, Tomasz Gop, the lead designer of the first part of the series, was ousted from the project, and although he still returned to CI Games in March 2016, he left the studio's ranks again after just over a year. Subsequently, the native company began a search for a team willing to help with the described title, which ended with the establishment of cooperation with the American Defiant Studios. The project, the creation of which the new developers started from scratch, was to work on the basis of Unreal Engine 4 technology. However, CI Games was not satisfied with this cooperation, due to which, in May 2019, the company decided to terminate it and at the same time announced that it would take on the completion of this work on its own. To this end, it opened a new studio - Hexworks - in September 2020. Finally, The Lords of the Fallen lived to see an official announcement at gamescom 2022.

Lords of the Fallen Review - Troublesome Reboot, Step in the Right Direction
The new Lords of the Fallen is definitely a better game than the almost decade-old original. More demanding and diverse, it offers a more interesting world. Still, it comes with a few problems.
Game is Recomended by 56% of Critics. There are 114 Critic Reviews.
God is a Geek: 8 / 10 by Mick Fraser
Lords of the Fallen is an enjoyable, challenging game, and the aesthetics are out of this world, but it suffers at times from a lack of focus.
Game Rant: 3 / 5 by Adrian Morales
In its current state, however, Lords of the Fallen proves that Hexworks still has a bit to go before it learns the same lessons that many souls-like developers have in of quality-of-life adjustments and making sure that it strikes the right balance between challenge and frustration. Right now, it seems like Lords of the Fallen is taking the worst elements of every souls-like game and making those elements its main catalyst for difficulty, which is a bummer because everything else is so good. For the souls-like hardcore, Lords of the Fallen will be a fine conquest, but for the souls-like beginner, there are better entry points to the genre that offer a more well-rounded exploration into what souls-likes are capable of.
GamesRadar+: 3.5 / 5 by Joel Franey
Lords of the Fallen just about justifies the return of this forgotten franchise by being basically fine. It has a few clever ideas and a whole bunch of very predictable ones, ultimately resulting in a soulslike experience that won't feel particularly new or fresh, but rarely offends or goes too far wrong.
