A special version of Fallout 4 developed by Bethesda Softworks with VR headsets in mind. Content-wise, the game doesn’t significantly deviate from the original, although the systems of combat, crafting, and building were altered in order to work with VR devices. The title is still an extensive RPG that takes us to an open post-apocalyptic world.
Fallout 4 VR for PC is a special version of 2015’s Fallout 4 developed with HTC Vive VR headset in mind. The production offers everything that the original did but the systems of combat, crafting, and building were altered in order to be compatible with VR specification.
The story of Fallout 4 VR starts in the suburbs of the American Boston, right before a tragic nuclear detonation. During the short introduction, we meet the protagonist’s family and create our character (a man or a woman) by making changes in his/her appearance and distributing skill points. Moments later, the aforementioned detonation occurs, and the protagonist makes it to Vault 111, a fallout shelter. The actual story starts 200 years later when the main hero/heroine comes out of the bunker to the surface and starts his/her fight for survival in the hostile post-apocalyptic environment. Our main task is to find the remaining family .
The action of Fallout VR for PC is observed from the first-person perspective, while the gameplay mechanics are mostly based on the solutions known from Fallout 3. In the game, such iconic hallmarks of the series as the S.P.E.C.I.A.L character attribute system and the V.A.T.S. aiming system, which allows for firing precise shots at specific limbs, make a reappearance. The production also allows us to adopt a dog or to forces with other characters that can be issued simple commands. The main goal of the developers was to offer absolute freedom to the players, so it is only up to us where we decide to go and how our actions influence the course of the story.
Compared with the previous installments of the series, the crafting system was significantly expanded and now allows us to, among other things, recycle environmental elements and use them to create completely new items and even buildings that serve as shelters for the protagonist and other survivors. The game offers tens of base weapons, all of which can be modified in hundreds of unique ways. Moreover, Fallout 4 VR features an improved version of PipBoy – a device that allows you to manage a ton of things such as inventory, skills, etc., and also play simple mobile games – if you manage to find the discs in the Wasteland.
Graphically, Fallout 4 VR for PC is based on a modified version of the Bethesda’s proprietary engine and looks better than the previous installment of the series. Apart from a number of changes in the gameplay mechanics and the interface (i.e. a new and quite limited dialogue system), the developers generally managed to preserve the unique atmosphere of the franchise to some degree.

Fallout 4 VR lets you experience the post-nuclear future in a much more intimate way. Its adaptation to the Vive's hand-tracked Touch controls works fairly well for moving and shooting, but poorly for using the Pip Boy's clunky interface, and that's something you'll need to do frequently. But it's worth putting up with to come face to face with Fallout 4's characters, monsters, and settings.

While unsurprisingly riddled with bugs at launch, and with other aspects just missing (DLC and scopes, as an example), the community steps in to make this incredible game one of the best titles on the VR platform. Delivering nearly 80 hours of gameplay, even without addons, it's easily the largest and most compelling reason to own a VR HMD.
