Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments for PC, XONE and etc. is another installment in adventure games series created by studio Frogwares. Eponymous character is a man gifted with an outstanding talent of deducting and observing, possesser of a scientific knowledge, owner of impressive archive in his house, ballistic expert and pretty well boxer.
The story of the game takes us again to London in Victorian era (1837-1901). We are playing as Sherlock Holmes who is trying to solve very difficult cases of crimes. This time we have to deal not whit only one but with six different investigations. During the adventure detective takes care mostly of mysterious murders but there are also cases of bold theft and abduction.
Developer decided to implement many changes in the mechanics in comparison to previous games of the series. During the investigation we are often making various choices (also moral ones) that have direct impact on the course of action – for example, we can point wrong person as a culprit and therefore finish the investigation prematurely. Our decisions have strong impact on the future fate of people involved in particular cases. They will also lead us to one of many endings.
Creators of Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments for PC, XONE and etc. decided to leave their own engine and use Unreal Engine 3 which significantly improved the graphics. We are observing the action with the third person view; first person perspective (FPP) occurs only while solving few puzzles. Sherlock Holmes himself was also visually modified – now he looks much more contemporarily.
