Fan remake of Heroes of Might and Magic 2 is even better now. Fheroes2 just got a new version
A new version of Fheroes2 has been released. It's a mod that upgrades Heroes of Might and Magic 2, making the game a lot more suited for modern PCs.

Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars remains a game beloved of many gamers. Although it does not match the popularity of HoMM3 it still has a large group of devoted fans who like to regularly return to this classic. One of the best ways to do this is with Fheroes2 fan project. We are writing about it because a new version has recently been released.
Fheroes2 essentially recreates Heroes of Might and Magic 2 on a new, much improved engine. However, it is not a fan remake, as the project still needs the files of the original to work. The mod ensures compatibility with modern PCs and operating systems, adds for high widescreen resolutions, and heavily upgrades the artificial intelligence. There are also additional features, including an option for auto-battles, which frees us from wasting time on simple skirmishes, the result of which we know immediately.

The latest version of Fheroes2 is numbered 1.1.6. It improves the interface by reworking many icons, expands the functions of adventure map events, fixes more than 50 technical bugs, and improves the mission editor.
All in all, Fheroes2 is currently the best way to play Heroes of Might and Magic 2, no matter if you’re a veteran returning to the game, or somebody playing this classic for the first time.
