Release Date: October 1, 1996
A continuation to a bestselling turn-based strategy game created by Jon Van Caneghem and his New World Computing studio. Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars is set several years after the events depicted in the original game. When the ruler of Enroth, Lord Morglin Ironfist dies, a conflict over the throne breaks out between his sons.
Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars is a PC-based continuation of the fantasy-based Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest from 1995. The production, bringing the universe of the popular RPG Might and Magic series to a completely new strategic ground, is another work in the heritage of experienced American designer Jon Van Caneghem and his New World Computing studio.
The action Heroes of Might and Magic II was set several years after the events described in the first part of the cycle. According to its canonical end, Lord Morglin Ironfist took power over the land of Enroth, uniting the surrounding lands and strengthening his position as king. When he died, between his two sons: Archibald and Roland began the struggle for the right to the throne. With his insidious actions, Archibald led to the expulsion of his brother from the kingdom, and proclaimed himself the new ruler of Enroth. Roland did not intend to give up easily, however, and with his own resistance movement he fought. By ing the game, players can take the side of one of the brothers and remain faithful to the new king, or help his brother to take over the crown.
The general objectives of the game in Heroes of Might and Magic II do not differ significantly from the solutions known from the first part of the cycle. The player's task is again to gradually explore and conquer new territories, and ultimately defeat the competitor and take control of the land of Enroth. Compared to its predecessor, the second installment of the series brings with it quite a number of novelties and improvements.
In Heroes of Might and Magic II, two new classes of characters - knight, barbarian, sorceress and sorceress - were added to the four already known classes: necromancer and sorcerer, as well as their characteristic castles and unknown creatures. While in the first part of the game the heroes were described by four basic skills, in the continuation they have been extended by a number of additional side skills, which can be further developed during the game. In addition to this, the game also offers the opportunity to improve some beings, which significantly increases their combat abilities. The spell casting system, which is no longer dependent on the hero's knowledge, but on magic points, has also been thoroughly modified. This way, for example, the hero re spells forever, but needs a certain number of these points to cast them.
As in the first part of the series, the basic mode of the game in Heroes of Might and Magic II is a one-player feature campaign, in which we can opt for both Archibald and Roland Ironfist. For those who like fast battles, there is of course a possibility to play a scenario with a computer opponent, while for fans of multiplayer (via the Internet, LAN or hotseat mode) for max. 4 players. Also not forgotten is the functional editor, which allows you to create or modify maps, which allows you to significantly extend the time spent with the game.
In of binding, Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars on PCs looks even more attractive than its direct predecessor. Particularly noteworthy are larger and more refined unit models, as well as more detailed cities with new building models. The soundtrack of the game was again taken care of by Paul Romero, known from the original, ed by Steve Baca and Robert King.
Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars is also available in the Gold edition, which, in addition to the basic version of the title, includes The Price of Loyalty by Cyberlore Studios. An unofficial extension called Desecrated Lands may also be a peculiarity. Developed by a small Dark Entertainment studio, in addition to a collection of maps and missions, the set includes a special editor that allows you to modify the saved game states.

Strategy
The official expansion to the turn-based strategy game Heroes of Might & Magic II. Unlike the vanilla version of the game, it has been developed not by the New World Computing company, but by the Cyberlore Studios team. The expansion titled The Price of Loyalty introduces four new campaigns – two long ones (8 missions) and two short ones (4 mission). Each of them tells a completely unique story that is not directly tied to the plot of the original version. Apart from that, the title offers new maps and scenarios, new locations on the adventure map, a previously unavailable structure for the necromancer class (the Evil Shrine), as well as numerous arteficts and scrolls. The expansion also introduces 11 new character portraits, however, they are only available in the campaign and single player scenarios. By default, we can also only use the 42 heroes known from the vanilla version of the production. The expansion is further diversified by an improved map editor, 26 animated cutscenes, and a brand new soundtrack.
